Ed Cotham

Ed Cotham served in vital leadership roles for the Terry Foundation and worked side by side with Howard Terry for several decades. Beginning in 1993, Ed served as the President of the Terry Petroleum Company. He was later named President of the Terry Foundation in 1998. As President, Ed was instrumental in leading the expansion of the Terry scholarship program while also managing both the Terry’s personal investment portfolio and the investments of the Foundation endowment. He served in the role of Chief Investment Officer of the Terry Foundation from 2015 until his retirement in 2022.

Prior to joining Terry Petroleum, Ed practiced law with the Morris & Campbell law firm in Houston. He received his undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Houston and a Masters Degree in Economics from the University of Chicago. A native Texan, Ed also completed a law degree from the University of Texas at Austin. He is a nationally recognized expert on Civil War history and has authored a number of books on military history.

Ed served on a multitude of interview panels over the years, including the panels which selected the inaugural classes for TXST, UTSA, TWU and TWU. He was a willing mentor to those interested in finance and investing, including his eventual successor as CIO, a Terry Scholar from Texas A&M.
