Welcome New Advisory Board Members!

The Foundation is proud to welcome the newest members to the Terry Scholar Alumni Advisory Board (TSAAB). These new members were chosen through an application process hosted by the Advisory Board Application Committee and began their three-year term at the beginning of February 2023. The Terry Scholar Alumni Advisory Board  is comprised of Alumni who have distinguished themselves in their service to the Foundation and to their fellow Terry Scholars. These individuals represent the Foundation at Terry functions, such as banquets and picnics, and participate in discussions about strengthening and supporting the Terry Community.

Baltazar Camacho (UT-Austin 2004)
Baltazar grew up in Brownsville, TX and was a First Grade Teacher in Austin for 5 yrs before switching to Real Estate full-time. He is now a residential real estate investor with additional venture/tech investments. His interests are Central Texas Real Estate, Potential World Changing Technologies, and helping young people live fun lives while reaching their full potential.

I am looking forward to listening and learning most importantly. After that I’d like to help the students or the Foundation any way I can, where I see an intersection of my skills and Foundation/student needs.

Katie Clifford (TWU 2013)
Katie graduated from Texas Woman’s University in 2017 with a B.S. in Government – Legal Studies and a B.S. in Sociology. She is a nonprofit management professional with six years of experience. She first joined Communities In Schools of North Texas as an intern in the Volunteer Department in 2016 during her senior year of college and fell in love with the positivity, camaraderie, and sense of close community that the CISNT team creates. She then spent five years developing sustainable grant funding for the organization as the Director of Grant Development. Katie is currently the Senior Director of Strategic Development and is responsible for securing strategic funding and resources that will sustain and grow CISNT programs and services. In her spare time, Katie loves to spend time with her family, her husband, Tim, and their cats Daisy and Dandy.

Kaeli Faires (TTU 2014)
Kaeli graduated from TTUHSC Jerry H. Hodge School of Pharmacy in 2021 with her PharmD. and currently works as a community pharmacist with a passion for travel health. Kaeli lives in Lubbock, TX with her husband, two siblings, three cats, and four dogs. She spends much of her free time taking care of her zoo, doing embroidery, and reading.

Roxi Fam (UH 2015)
Roxi is a Terry Transfer Terry Scholar who graduated in 2017. Upon graduation, Roxi embarked on her journey in various fields including recruiting and marketing. After experiencing unexpected challenges, Roxi’s spark and interest in entrepreneurship ignited. She is currently an entrepreneur‐in‐the‐making and devotes her time to giving back to the community through participating in the Terry Alumni Advisory Board and Big Brothers Big Sisters.

“I look forward to bringing the Terry Scholar Community of current students and alumni together. My passion for learning about and pursuing entrepreneurship has grown my personal development, and I desire to cultivate a growth mindset for those who are interested in or pursuing entrepreneurship. I am happy to support the Terry Family and provide a sense of belonging.”

Kristen Gilmore (UTSA 2012)
Kristen graduated from UTSA in 2016 with a B.S. in biomedical engineering. Since then, she has found her way north to Austin (Buda to be exact) and currently works at Agilent Technologies as a Senior Quality Engineer in the Genomics division focusing on new product introduction. Kristen lives with her husband and 3‐year‐old daughter and is expecting another daughter in July!

“I look forward to learning new ways to individually contribute to the Terry Foundation’s mission, as well as encourage other Alumni to do the same and make an impact on the Terry Family as we continue to grow year after year.”

Courtney Jaekel (UTA 2015)
While at UTA, Courtney studied Industrial Engineering and was heavily involved in the Terry student organization. Following graduation, she accepted a Project Management position with Nokia and has remained with the company since. As an Alumna, she has served as an Alumni DFW Chapter officer for the past 4 years and is currently the Chapter Co‐President.

“As an Advisory Board member I am most looking forward to getting engaged with the Terry Foundation at a deeper level and fulfilling my promise to give back.”

Tina Lin (UT-Austin 2011)
Tina graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Masters in Professional Accounting. During her time at UT, Tina worked with the China Care Foundation whose mission is to provide orphans a second chance at life. A Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Tina spent five years with PwC Austin focusing on audits of public and private for-profit companies. She currently works as the Assurance Officer at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation where she oversees the grantee audits and internal audit portfolios. In her free time, Tina enjoys painting, baking, and practicing yoga.

“I am looking forward to learning about the operational aspects of the Foundation from Scholar selection to all the steps leading up to Alumni engagement after graduation. I’m beyond excited to contribute to further the mission of the Foundation!”

Chelsea Moore (TXST 2012)
Chelsea graduated from Texas State with a BA in Psychology and a Master of Social Work. She has specialized in administrative and operational roles in the education system, starting with running community‐based organizations to support college and career preparation in local school systems. She is now managing professional development pilots for K‐12 educators to implement new curriculum in the classroom. She resides near Austin, where she spends her free time doing macrame projects, playing Dungeons & Dragons, and spending time with her partner and their gentle giant of a Rottweiler.

“I am really excited to learn more about how the Foundation operates and to encourage more alumni to network and build community with each other.”

Daphne Newaz (UT-Austin 1999)
Daphne has been an Assistant United States Attorney for the Western District of Texas since 2011. In this role, she prosecutes individuals accused of violating various federal laws. She serves as the communications chair of the Terry Scholars Alumni Association’s San Antonio Chapter. Her free time is spent coaching her children in basketball and otherwise attending far too many sports practices and games.

“I am looking forward to learning more about the Foundation, connecting with current and former Terry Scholars, and honoring my pledge to give back.”

Bryton Praslicka, PhD (TAMU 2015)
Bryton graduated from Texas A&M with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 2019 and a Ph.D. in the same in 2023. During his Ph.D. program, he published 10 peer-reviewed articles and invented 4 technologies (patent pending). He now lives in College Station, TX, and is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of FluxWorks, an engineering startup company with 5 full-time employees.

“The Terry Foundation changed the trajectory of my life, and enabled me the freedom to be mentored, mature professionally, and develop lifelong friendships. As a part of the Alumni Advisory Board, I aspire to create opportunities to create opportunities for the Terry Family to develop relationally and professionally.”

Lexy Salinas (TAMUG 2014)
Lexy graduated from Texas A&M University at Galveston with a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology. She then then studied Arctic ecology at the University of Notre Dame, later graduating with a Master of Science. She is a a Senior Field Ecologist for the Long Term Ecological Research Network studying fire ecology in Arctic Alaska. During the off‐season, Lexy is a substitute teacher for Northside ISD in San Antonio and a virtual subject/test prep tutor for StudyPoint, Inc. She loves hiking, scuba diving, and traveling.

“I am most excited for the opportunity to give back as an Advisory Board member and help enhance alumni‐scholar relations and DEI within the Terry Foundation!”

Shannon Terry (UH 2013)
Shannon graduated with a BS in Political Science from the University of Houston and a J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center. She serves as in-house counsel for CenterPoint Energy, supporting Land and Field Services and Facilities in Minnesota and Texas. She also manages CenterPoint Energy’s auto litigation docket. Prior to joining CenterPoint Energy, Shannon worked as a litigation associate for Hicks Davis Wynn and Winstead PC, representing CenterPoint Energy and other oil and gas clients in large eminent domain projects, condemnation proceedings, and general commercial matters.

“I am excited to serve on the Terry Alumni Advisory Board and I am looking forward to helping the Foundation and the Alumni network grow.”
