We take great pleasure in welcoming Blane Skiles to the Terry Foundation Board of Directors.

The goal of our Founders was for our board be comprised of Terry Scholar Alumni who can administer the program for the benefit of future Terry Scholars. Through his dedication to the Terry Community and demonstrated passion for providing young Texans with opportunities to achieve success, Blane helps us realize that goal. Blane’s term begins on January 1, 2024.

Blane Skiles (UNT 2012)

Blane Skiles is originally from Trinidad, Texas and is a member of the 2012 class of Terry Scholars at the University of North Texas. He received a B.A. in broadcast journalism from UNT and a master’s degree in nonprofit administration from Louisiana State University.

Blane is Director of Communications for the Deason Criminal Justice Reform at SMU’s Dedman School of Law. In this role, he oversees external affairs, marketing, public relations, and legislative affairs. Prior to joining SMU and the Deason Center, Blane worked as a journalist and television news producer. He has produced and directed two documentary films, and his work has been honored with two EMMY awards, the National Edward R. Murrow Award, and recognition from the Associated Press.

Blane has served the Terry Foundation as an interview panelist, featured Terry Banquet Speaker, Advisory Board member, and TSAA Chapter officer. Blane and his wife, Sarah, live in Northlake, Texas with their two children, Margo and Theo. He actively volunteers with local education organizations and at his daughter’s school.

“The Terry Foundation has such a bright future, and I’m proud to help make Mr. Terry’s vision of Alumni leading the Foundation a reality. I applied to join the Board of Directors with future generations of Terry Scholars in mind. There are incredible kids in classrooms all across Texas right now, and many of them are going to need help to achieve their higher education goals. I want to do everything I can to make sure the Terry Foundation is there to help as many of them as possible.

Simply put, serving this organization and working to develop future leaders of Texas is a great use of my time and skills. I am looking forward to lending my unique experience and perspective to help amplify the Terry Foundation’s story so we can continue to change lives for generations to come.”
