Writing Your Terry Story

Terry Scholars receive the gift of pursuing a debt-free education and are instantly members of the Terry Scholar Community!

You join over 6,000 highly driven and talented Terrys worldwide who remember their humble beginnings and are motivated to stay engaged and fulfill their pledge to “Give Back” to the Foundation.

The Terry journey is lifelong, and opportunities to get involved and have a meaningful impact start as a student.

So What’s Next?

Staying informed and engaged with your Terry Community is the first step you can take to make the most of this incredible gift.

Explore more about being a Terry Scholar:

Engage with the Terry Community by:

  • maintaining scholarship eligibility requirements;
  • attending mandatory events with the expectation of investing in and seeking guidance from fellow Scholars
  • exemplifying the four Pillars of the Terry Scholarship Program: Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Community;
  • participating in the Terry Scholar Student Organization;
  • maintaining an active profile on Terry Connect to network with fellow Terrys;
  • being #TerryProud (social media, email signature, LinkedIn)
  • or a combination of any/all of these options.

  • mentoring the next generation of Terrys;
  • supporting service events hosted by the Terry Scholar Student Organization;
  • serving on a committee or as an officer for the Terry Scholar Student Organization;
  • participating in Terry Give Back Day and Terry Legacy Day activities;

  • or a combination of any/all of these options.

How do I keep my Terry Scholarship?

  • Conduct yourself in a manner that brings positive recognition to yourself, your university, and the Terry Foundation.
  • Maintain good standing with your Terry University.
  • Reside on campus in designated Terry housing during your first year.
  • Maintain a minimum 2.0 semester GPA each semester.
  • Maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA each semester.
  • Maintain a minimum of full-time enrollment (12 hours) each semester at your Terry University.
  • Attend and participate in all THREE mandatory events hosted by the Terry Foundation each year.

ORIENTATION

At the beginning of each academic year, the Foundation hosts an orientation event at each of the universities for all current and incoming Traditional Scholars. Scholars have the opportunity to engage with their Terry Community and hear updates from their Terry Campus Coordinator and their Scholar Relations Manager.

Orientation provides Scholars with valuable information about the Terry Scholarship program, strategies for student success, and highlights the Terry Scholar Student Organization.

FALL BANQUET

The Foundation also sponsors a reception and formal dinner in the fall at each university. The banquet is an opportunity for Terry Scholars to meet and network with the Terry Alumni, Directors, Foundation staff, University Administrators, and other Scholars.

During the reception, all Scholars have their photo taken by a professional photographer and later provided their professional headshot. The dinner features presentations by upper-class Scholars, representatives of the Terry Scholar Student Organization, and an invited Alumni featured speaker.

Dress is business professional (coat and tie), but Scholars are not required or expected to purchase special clothes for this event.

SPRING PICNIC

In the late spring, all of the Scholars travel by bus from each university to a picnic where the accomplishments of the graduating seniors are recognized.

Currently, there are five spring picnics: George Ranch (TAMU, UH), Central Texas (UT, UTSA, TXST), Southfork Ranch (UTD, UNT, TWU, UTA), Lubbock (TTU), and El Paso (UTEP).

Terry Alumni, Board and Advisory Board Members, and University Partners will join current Scholars to celebrate the seniors. During the Terry Gold Pen Ceremony, graduates receive a gold pen from the Foundation and share their plans for the future.
