From Kaufman, Texas, Meyling “Mey” Ly Ortiz is a 1999 Texas A&M University Terry Scholar. She earned her B.A. in Speech Communications from A&M in 2003 and her J.D. from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law in 2006. She has previously served as an Alumni Advisory Board Member for the Terry Foundation and began her service as a Board Member to the Terry Scholars Fund in 2022.
Currently, she is Managing Counsel of Employment and Labor for Toyota Motor North America, Inc. Prior to her employment with Toyota, Mey practiced in the Dallas office of the international law firm, Littler Mendelson.
Mey and her husband, Jason live in The Colony, Texas with their three children, Olivia, Orion and Owynn. In addition to her service to the Terry Scholars Fund and Terry Foundation, Mey serves on the Emerging Leaders Board of SMU Law, Community Advisory Board of the Junior League of Dallas, and President of the Podium. In her spare time, you can find her mentoring law students and young lawyers or writing for Above the Law, Attorney at Work, or her personal blog: TheMeybe.com.
I am serving on the TSF Board because I want to play a small part in growing the Terry legacy and the impact of Mr. and Mrs. Terry’s generosity and leadership. To me, being a Terry means doing what you can with what you have to make your community a better place for all. It is living the legacy of “giving back” and “paying it forward,” because that is what the Terrys did for so many. My “Give Back” to the Foundation shows up as time and energy as a board member and “pay-it-forward” through donations and community work. I choose to give back to the Foundation because it is the Foundation that gave me “My Shot” (Hamilton fan anyone?).
